“All Systems Glow” Tuffet

When I saw this FQ bundle, I imagined a young boy sitting on his All Systems Glow tuffet reading a book on space, when this tuffet started to take shape, in my head.

By fluke, friends of ours announced they’d recently had a baby boy and I decided I would make this tuffet as a special gift for them and him.

Even better, when we asked what theme the baby’s bedroom is, of course, space.  I was so excited to get started on this space themed tuffet.

I selected my material and cut my strips of fabric, 4 bundles of 8 fabrics would be required for this one.

Then proceeded to pin my strips, to my muslin, which was already precut.

Sewed each quarter, as per my preplanned design.

Arranged my pattern so I could check each eighth was in the correct position and took some photos to check.  Also used this opportunity to see what fabric I should use for the center button.

I then pinned my eighths together making sure to work on the same seams each time.  Once they were sewn, I proceeded to sew each quarter together and then each half.  The end result looks something like this.

Next sewed on the nylon string and covered the button with the chosen fabric.

Assembly:-

I cut my upholstery batting and arranged the foam into the center with wood round placed on top and staple-gunned the batting to the wood, trimmed off the excess.

I was now ready to fit my top, using the upholstery needle to keep the cover centered, I (with some help) pulled on the cover.

The button was then added.

I had this brainwave idea to paint the bun feet and turn them into rocket 🚀 boosters Haha.  So hear goes, Wendy, aged 4.  I know they’re not perfect but this tuffet is unique - one of a kind.  And the new owner can always repaint them, or replace the feet, if not to their liking - I won’t hold it against the new owner - when he’s old enough.

Finally, I cut my bottom round fabric, sewed on my custom label and ironed on the fusible pellon, to the inside of the fabric, sewed a seam around the edge before adhering fabric to tuffet using upholstery tacks.

I’m very happy with the end result, hopefully the new baby will come to love using this tuffet as they get bigger 😍
